Dr. Georgina Spyres was born in 1976 in the USA but her heritage is rooted in the crystal waters of Western Mani and Taygetus mountain. She has actively led actions for the protection of nature since she was 14. After studying Ocean Science and Fisheries in the UK for her Bachelors, she received a PhD in Chemical Oceanography where the overarching aim of her research investigated the implications of climate change on the oceanic environment. She has worked in prestigious research centers in the UK, USA, The Netherlands, Israel, Spain and Greece and has taught in higher education institutions as an academic in both Greece and the USA. With over 50 publications, she is also an author of children’s books that creatively present the issue of biodiversity loss and protection. She collaborates with environmental organizations in Greece and internationally for the design of educational programs. In the last decade she has dedicated her career to formal and non-formal environmental education for participants of all ages, and she strategically communicates for instigating a change in attitudes and behaviors for a more sustainable future. She is a member of the IUCN Communication and Education Committee. Dr. Spyres lives by the sea and has a son.
She provides workshops for Social Dynamo on topics conercning environmental issues.
