The A. G. Leventis Foundation was founded in May 1979 to further the vision of A. G. Leventis, who also set out the principal guidelines for his project. Now in its fourth decade, the A. G. Leventis Foundation – in addition to its extensive charitable programme and its innovative involvement in the areas of environmental protection and medical research – has made a major contribution to the study and promotion of the culture and history of Greece and Cyprus, through his concern for the restoration and reconstruction of monuments from the classical, Byzantine, and post-Byzantine eras, as well as the study and improvement of collections of Cypriot antiquities in museums around the world. The institution’s commitment to an international programme of support for Greek studies, the regular granting of scholarships and the ongoing contribution to academic research form part of the same overall enterprise. Through its support of humanitarian projects, the improving of initiatives for the new generation, the protection of the natural world and biodiversity, as well as the promotion of sustainable development in Southeast Europe, Africa and worldwide, the A. G. Leventis Foundation today consistently seeks to realise its founder’s vision.
